Exporting a long audio file becomes shorter after export

Hi there,

I am just getting used to Logic X but I am having a problem with a dj set trying to export. I recorded a 4.5 hr continuous mix dj set as an mp3 file, I imported it into Logic, I want to cut it to 4 hours and fade at the end. When I export my entire audio file as 1 track as an audio file, the file shows up on my desktop but when I import it back into my iTunes to change it from 1411kbps to 320kbps the file only shows up as 3:25 long (Three hours and twenty five minutes). I think this is a glitch unless I'm maxing out on space for Logic? Can someone help with this?

I am using Logic Pro X 10.2.1

Software version 10.9.5

I have selected all the regions to get exported.

I'm not 100% sure I fully understand what you are doing but....

Certain audio formats have a maximum file size....(length)

What format are you bouncing out in?

Try using CAF if you aren't already..... for really long recordings...

Whereas AIFF, AIFF-C, and WAV files are limited in size to 4 gigabytes, which might represent as little as 15 minutes of audio, CAF files use 64-bit file offsets, eliminating practical limits. A standard CAF file can hold audio data with a playback duration of hundreds of years.

If you or anyone else is interested... The dev notes on the Core Audio Format (CAF) can be found here..

Hi there,

When the track is played back in iTunes, it is the same speed as the original.

I think my original post must have been confusing. Basically:

I have a 4.5 hour audio file in MP3 that is currently in iTunes. I drag the file to my desktop and it becomes a 665mb audio file as mp3.

I want to bring it into Logic Pro X so that I can shorten the audio file and fade out near the end to 4 hours. I have done that.

When I export the file as '1 track as an audio file' the final output is a 2.13gb file (which is not that big) and import it back into iTunes, it is a 1411mbps file that is only 3 hours and 21 minutes long, not 4 hours like it should be.

I have done this before with shorter files with no problems, but I can't remember if I bounced the entire session or chose the '1 track as an audio file' option. Anyways, it used to work. I don't think I should have to learn about a CAF file to fix this problem. All I'm doing is editing down a long audio file.

Not sure how to fix this.

Im not sure what you are trying to achieve... that you have to use iTunes to do so?

Do you have to use iTunes... rather than something like VLC instead to playback?

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

VLC plays back all kinds of different mediums/fomats including CAF format audio files..

Anyhow.. I suggested CAF just to test for the shortened file length... thats all....

As for uploading.. what website/service are you using for the upload that requires iTunes or do you just need to convert to MP3 to keep the file size down and you are using iTunes to do that??
