Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard 2 Battery question

I got a late 2015 iMac for Christmas and it came with the Apple Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard 2 I was wondering why I can see the status of my mouse but I can't see the battery status of my keyboard? Also as of today I've had the computer for over a month and have never had to recharge the keyboard or mouse. As of right now my mouse is at 17% but I haven't seen any battery messages and since I can't seem to get the keyboard's status I guess I'll never see it or it only comes on when low. The computer came preloaded with Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and I have the latest update. I saw another post in here about eh batteries but they were for the old devices which involved replacing the batteries. Anyone with any help it is greatly appreciated.
