Q: How do I stop browsers from automatically switching to previous page?

Frequently, Chrome, Firefox, etc. will randomly jump back to the previous page I was on. Often just before I'm going to click "Submit" in a form (it loses everything I wrote and I have to start over--very annoying when you have to do it three times). It also happens when I use the scroll on my mouse, move the cursor on the page, look at it sideways, etc. I cannot determine what action is taking place to cause this. Often I have not moved even a fraction and a shadowy half circle moves out from the left side of the browser window and jumps me one or two pages backwards.

Using the forward arrow at the top doesn't restore me to the page I left or the data I just entered. Nothing is remembered. How can I stop this very annoying behavior?

I've checked all browser settings and the Mac OS X accessibility and mouse settings and I can't find any controls for automatic page switching. It has to be set somewhere. In Chrome, I just see a brief shadowy half circle; but in Firefox, I also see an arrow in the half circle so it is programmed somewhere. How do I turn it off?

I am using Mac OS X 10.10.5.
