whats best cable modem to pair with new apple extreme 802.11 ac

i have old motorola sb6121 paired with new apple extreme 802.11ac that i bought yesterday and after 12 hours of trying everything i keep getting disconnected every few seconds.. i have read all relevant post and tried all to get to play nice.. when i get signal its over 85mbps because I'm paying for comcast blast. i want a new modem and would like to know what is recommended.. i see zoom 5141j is recommended but i see zoom has new 16x4 cable modem.. would it be to my advantage to go with 16x4 vx 8x4 channels when pairing with extreme? thanks

iMac, iOS 9.2.1, latest El capitan os

Questions like this are actually impossible to answer.......mainly because no one has tested every modem with an AirPort Extreme to find out if a "best" modem really exists. Even if it were possible to come up with a "best" modem though.....it would make little sense to choose that modem and then find out that it was not supported by Comcast.

So a better plan for you might be to look for a list of modems that are supported by Comcast, narrow your choices down to 3-4 products, then post that list here and ask other Comcast users for feedback on how the products have performed for them. You might also consider posting on a Comcast online forum as well.

As far as your question about the new Zoom modem, that product really is brand new, so it will be some time before a track record can be developed for that product. It appears that the new Zoom modem is designed primarily to work with higher speed connections.......600, 700, 800+ Mbps Internet speeds. So, unless you are planning to move to an Internet connection plan with those types of speeds in the near future, you probably don't need a modem with that type of capability.

i currently have the surfboard 6121 and can not get a connection that stays on more than a few seconds at a time. I have tried all the tricks and spent hours online with Comsat. I had a 2009 extreme and they said was the issue. went and bought new Apple extreme and still same results.. comcast said after the fact oh that 6121 is end of life and no longer supported. now shopping for new modem.. all the articles and reviews says Motorola and apple = headache and heartache. I'm just trying to narrow down to what's recommend for Comcast 100 blast..

And, once you have things narrowed down......I suggested that you post that list here and ask other users for feedback regarding their experience with their particular modem.

It's probably going to be tough to get "views" for your original post though.......since you want to attract Comcast users who have an AirPort Extreme. You might want to start a new post with a title that would attract users who might have the kind of information that you need. Something like a title of.......

Need modem recommendations for use on AirPort Extreme with Comcast 100 Mbps service.

Good luck

I'm in a similar situation. I'm also looking for a Cable Modem that plays nice with my new AE ac.We have just dropped Cox cable TV and are considering going to a VOIP in the future (perhaps http://www.ooma.com/)

@tesserax mentioned that there have been a lot of issues with my new SB6141 Cable modem and AE devices.

I currently have:

  • iMac 27" Late 2012, MB Air A1465, iPhone 6s, 5s, 4s, iPads, ATV 4
  • Airport Extreme ac (not installed yet)
  • Motorola SB6141 Cable modem (just updated from SB5100 last week - but can return)
  • Cox Cable 50 Mbps (usually w/ ~32 Mbps) (we dropped our cable TV last week also, after testing for few weeks)

Cox recommends various brands on their site:
