DVD's that I burned on iphoto and worked previously have stopped working.

Based on what you posted I can only assume that the DVD has gone bad - they do and because of that are not a reliable backup medium

DVD's that I burned on iphoto that previously worked will not now work on either mac or separate DVD player
Some of them can still show content on "finder" but cannot be played
DVD's that were burned on iphoto and could be played do not now play on either mac or separate DVD player. Some, when the disc is inserted will either send me to iphoto with message "checking for up-dates" or will show content in "Finder".
What version created the DVD? And what version do you have now? Recent versions have no ability to burn DVD and no ability to interact with them. You will need to copy the Library from the disk to your hard drive to open it.
