Feb 5, 2016 5:53 AM in response to Maddib1232by General_Cool,There are two packages; Microsoft Office 365 Personal, and Microsoft Office 365 Home. Home costs $9.99 per month, while Personal costs $6.99 per month. Home includes up to 5 Macs or PCs, while Personal includes 1 Mac or PC. I have purchased Home for my friend and I because we both have Macbook Pros, but if you don't have more than one Mac or PC that you want to use it on, buy personal. They both come with infinite iOS downloads. They both have the same exact features too, so you won't miss out if you buy Personal.

You can outright buy a copy of Microsoft Office 2016 for $150. Since it is only needed on one computer, it is cheaper than paying $100-$120 every single year.

Feb 5, 2016 8:11 AM in response to Maddib1232by JtheK,Office 2011 is a more complete package than 2016 for Mac, which is still missing critical features. Both are more stable under Yosemite than under El Capitan. If you're using El Capitan, LibreOffice will probably work better for you.

Feb 5, 2016 8:14 AM in response to Maddib1232by Sparkleberry,IMHO it is (1) a function of the other entities with whom you are exchanging files/information and (2) your budget.
A perfect version of MS Office for the Mac has yet to be written. Office 2016 has some bugs that were nonexistent in Office 2011. Seemingly simple things such as fonts, bullets, numbering or page breaks can pose minor to major issues when exchanging files with Windows only Office users. This has been the case for 30 years.
As Allan Eckert wrote, the cheapest solution is LibreOffice. If you primarily exchange files with Windows only Office users, go with MS 2016 or the 365 subscription, and hope some of the bugs will be addressed in future releases. Remember that you can always try LibreOffice first and go with MS Office if you have to have it.

Feb 5, 2016 10:39 AM in response to Allan Eckertby eolivia3,I am currently using Pages, but am finding it does not convert smoothly back to a .doc format without formatting changes. How is LibreOffice in this regard?
