Safari no longer works with self signed SSL Certificates?

With the latest Safari (9.0.3) on OS X (running 10.11.3) and on iOS (Running 9.2.1), I can no longer connect to sites that use self-signed SSL certificates. Previously, I was warned that the site's certificate wasn't "valid", but given the opportunity to continue anyways. This is the behavior I'd like back. This still works just fine in Chrome, Firefox. but Safari now just gives me a "Safari Can't Open Page" error like it would if it couldn't reach the server. Specifically, it says "Safari can’t open the page https://myselfsignedhost.com because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server myselfsignedhost.com.

It does not give me the option to inspect the certificate, add the certificate to my keychain, trust the cert, ignore the warning once, or anything else that would be useful... it just pretends like it can't connect. Am I missing something? How can I restore the old functionality? This 'bug' makes safari completely useless for me.

Ok, some more info... this appears to only apply to SOME sites with self signed SSL certs... The only obvious thing I can think of is that maybe it applies to sites where the SSL cert changed from when the page was first loaded?

If I open a new private window, I can access the page without issue. If I then open a new standard window, I can also open the page, until i quit safari. Once I quit, it stops loading again with the same error....

If I manually add the SSL certificate to my keychain as trusted, the page will also work... Perhaps there is a certificate cache somewhere that is out of date?

Hi AdamPCK,

I have iOS v9.3 devices (both iPhone and iPad Air) and Safari will not connect to my HTTPS server with self-signed cert. I've tried both using private browsing and delete all website data but still no success.

I was told that I have only 1 self-signed cert without CA root chained to the self-signed. Could that be the issue? I am researching on how to add a CA root to the chain. I am running WebSphere Application Server with IBM HTTP Server (Apache) in front.
