New iMac: Epson NX420 won't scan

Just got a new iMac and running El Capitan 10.11.3. All features of my Epson NX420 work except scanning. Regardless of what I do, I get a communication error: W-61. I have unplugged the printer USB, restarted printer, reset the printer on the Mac in System Preferences, updated all drivers according to Epsons special instructions for El Capitan users. Restarted computer. Shut everything down for 5 minutes. Still no scanning and same error message.

This printer worked fine with my previous computer ((2009 iMac).

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What system was your previous computer using?

First Control (right) - click on the printer in the System/Printers & Scanners preference pane and select Reset Printer System from the contextual menu:

You'll have to then click on the "+" button and add the printer back.

If that doesn't work download the scanner and printer drivers from this Epson webpage, instal and try again: Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer.

boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repIr the disk. Reboot normally and try again.

Can you print?

If it's just scanning you can't do download and try the demo version of VueScan. If the 64 bit version doesn't work try the 32 bit version which can be obtained at the bottom of the page I linked to.

Also be sure the scanner is turned on before launching VueScan.
