Q: Any monitors work well with Mac Mini?

I'm running with this setup on my Mini. One connected through HDMI, the other through an HDMI-Mini Display converter cable to one of my Mini's Thunderbolt 2 ports. Both are 27 inch, and for both it's the maximum possible resolution (1920x1080). Both run fine and are pretty sharp.

If you want to have really sharp images, try a smaller screen like a 21 inch model or so. The reason for me to go for a big model is that my eyesight isn't exactly 100%. The larger model makes for much easier reading.

How far from the screen are your eyes?

I don't have the current Mini. However, my 2012 Mini looks great with my 24" NEC. If I were going to get a 27" monitor, I would get one with  2560 x 1440 resolution. Given the price range you mentioned not wanting to spend, a 27" monitor is not your best bet. Look for a decent 24" display instead, preferably with more connection options.

Well, I'm running a mid-tier 2014 Mac Mini, and previously had an Asus 24" VS28 display @ 1920 x 1200 - which was great.  But then I've had this itch to go 4k, and I did all the research.  This Mini will only support 4k @ 30hz, but I'm thinking I'm going to spring for a new Macbook - whenever Apple decides to get current with the world - so I'll use the display anyway.

After much reading, I ordered a new Dell P2415Q 4k display from B&H Photo for $390.00 delivered - insane price, right?  Received it the next day - and within 15 minutes, plugged the HDMI cable into the Mini, and was shocked - SHOCKED, I say - by the awesome clarity of the screen and the overall performance.  I was sort of expecting some issues with lag on the mouse & keyboard, and to my surprise there was none of that.  This is just 24" of pure Retina goodness, all from this little Mini.  It's truly outstanding.

So if anyone asks me about the best monitor for the Mac Mini, this is it, hands down.  If you want to live in the Retina world - and who doesn't, really - this is the way to go.  It'll blow you away with it's 4k coolness ;-)

I also have a Dell P2415Q 4k. I have had it since shortly after it first came out. My 2013 Mac Pro can run it at 4K@60 Hz but I only use 4K for photo editing and other things when I id need the more pixels.  Otherwise I run it at 1080p since at 4K the icons and other system stuff is too small.

The Dell also looks great at 1080p on my 2012 Mac Mini
