I'm getting a pop up message to update my software even though my software is up to date.
the problem is that i cant get rid of the message without putting the apple tv to sleep and switching on again. The remote cant access the buttons on the message it can only access the stuff on the screen below.
i've turned off auot update and have reset the device, neither worked.
does anyone have a fix for this?

For clarification is this the system software or one of the apps that you have downloaded.

Then you might want to try a restore.
settings > system > reset > restore.
Thanks, however I have tried that already and it made no difference.

Could you post a picture of your screen with the message?
Its a message like this. I can't get the remote to click or toggle the buttons it only is able to access the content beneath the message eg open an app, move the cursor to a different selection

That's a very good photo, are you sure it isn't a screenshot and that you are in something other than a regular user situation. We are unable to help you if this is the case.
That seems like a software bug. Try this: double tap the TV icon key and see if the message shrinks. If it does, try swiping up to force quit all the apps that appear until you are down to just the menu.

Are you sure it isn't an update for your TV.
It isn't an Apple message, it looks nothing like the one you posted previously.
It would make sense that your Apple TV remote was unable to select it, try doing so with your Sony TV remote.
I am glad you posted the picture. It is not from the ATV but for your smart Sony TV. Use the Sony remote and hit the center of the circle button on it to do the TV update. That will fix the issue.
