Percentage Formula symbol question

I'm trying to create a simple spreadsheet to calculate the percentage differences between a set of numbers based on stock market returns. When I try to create the formula (B3-B2)/B2, Numbers puts the "+" sign instead of the "/" sign

User uploaded fileAny help to get the correct formula or an explanation of why I'm getting this and how to fix would be appreciated.

It looks like a + sign but if you look closely you will see that it is the symbol for division ÷.

BTW you can simplify your formula: Ending Value/Beginning Value -1.
