I'm trying to create a simple spreadsheet to calculate the percentage differences between a set of numbers based on stock market returns. When I try to create the formula (B3-B2)/B2, Numbers puts the "+" sign instead of the "/" sign
Any help to get the correct formula or an explanation of why I'm getting this and how to fix would be appreciated.

It looks like a + sign but if you look closely you will see that it is the symbol for division ÷.
BTW you can simplify your formula: Ending Value/Beginning Value -1.

Yes, it seems that symbol is just too small to make out clearly on most displays, especially when you're not expecting it. After you know to expect it, of course, your brain will tell your eyes they "see" it clearly, so it won't be a problem.🙂
