A friend died and I have their Time Capsule backup. Can I use my computer (Mac) to see what is on the backup? I just want to see if there is anything I should save or pass along, not download anything to my computer. Thanks.
Yes, you can right click on the TM icon in the dock and select browse other Time Machine disk.
If the person encrypted the backup then without the password . .there is no way to access it.
Nowadays permissions are much tighter even if the original backup was not encrypted.. so you might need to archive the TC to a USB drive.. plug that into the computer and fix the permissions.
