I have set up accounts and still can't get apple tv to recognize my id and or password. What steps do I need to do to add the appletv to my account as it is not listed on devices.

It should show up once you've successfully signed into the account on the Apple TV.

Your Apple TV isn't supposed to show up in your list of devices. Could you explain what it is you are doing and what it is you are expecting to happen.
I would have said the same as you but I checked my devices page as outlined in the support document.
Perhaps the Apple TV is there because I have an active iTunes Match subscription. I'm guessing the Mac mini has that odd name because I fired up the device simulator in XCode, otherwise that is yet another mystery to solve.

Ahhh yes, I'm aware of that, I was thinking they were expecting to see the Apple TV in the Device List in iTunes, but then again if I'd have noticed which Kb they had been directed from I might have realised that. 😊
