I was attempting to go to amazon when the following appeared, "From channel7news.co" appeared and told me to call an 866 number or go to support.microsoft. Safari immediately frooze. I immediately force quit safari but when I tried to boot up, it was still there. How do I get rid of it?

Relaunch Safari with the Shift key held down. If the message reappears, disconnect the computer from the Internet and close the tab the popup came from.

Thank you for your very quick response......sofar I think this helped. When I go to the launchpad it is still there. How do I get rid of this for good or what can I do to prevent this from happening in the future?
What do you mean it's in your Launchpad? You didn't download anything, did you? To avoid it from happening in the future, stay away from shady websites and install an ad-blocker.
When I open launchpad, malware icon appears. I did not knowingly download anything....unless you consider amazon a "shady website". I already have an ad-blocker installed !
Click and hold the icon in Launchpad until it starts shaking. Then click the X at the top left corner.
