Battery Question

So, the time has come I need to change the battery, however I feel a bit frustrated since I only have 417 cycles, and when I got the macbook Pro, they said 1000 cycles??? I read that actually some have reached that number or more, was my unit defected??

My computer is late 2011 ( bought in May 2012), out of warranty even if I did had apple total care for three years, I guess there is no way to find out if it was a bad battery? and get it replaced for free?

Thanks

1000 cycles is expected normal, not guaranteed. Batteries have a "time" life of about 3 years, regardless of cycles. And if people run the batteries dead, even shorter.

If a system is used "mobile" because of the user needs, the battery cycles are deeper than if the system is not mobile.

But old batteries can swell, break the outer shell and disrupt the trackpad/keyboard -- do not delay, in my opinion. Even if there is not other damage and you pay for a battery, it should only be about $130.
