How can I increase the speed of typing in Japanese?

I use a Macbook Pro from 2012 and I use it to type stuff in Japanese all the time. But lately I started to get annoyed on how slow the words appear on the screen. Like I would have typed a whole sentence sometimes and it was still catching up.

How can I make this problem go away?
