How did you do the migration? As part of the general migration at initial startup, using Migration Assistant after initial startup, or see other way?

1st attempt I used backed up files from my Seagate Drive.

2nd time I tried using iCloud sharing (a bit slow...). I just tried your suggestion of using Migration Assistant (duh, me) from the Seagate. All came out with same result. Thinking of next trying connecting both laptops and trying Migration Assistant again (will need proper connect cable tho ) or perhaps DropBox......Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

What format is the seagate drive/ For the Photos library it must be Mac OS extended (journaled)

and exactly how you did the migration is critical

The best way is to connect the systems together or use an EHD formatted mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the Photos library intact as a single entity form the original system to the pictures folder of the new system and then launch Photos on the new system

Regards your first attempt: Were the "backed up files from [your] Seagate Drive" part of a Time Machine backup? How did you migrate from there?

Regards your second attempt: iCloud Photo Sharing is known not to transmit Faces data.

I assume you had Faces working in whatever version of Photos was running on your previous MacBook?

Yes Seagate was part of Time Machine back up. I think I just did restore (to new laptop)...

Thanks for info on iCloud Sharing and yes, Photos was running fine on earlier MBPro & it is still there (thank goodness).

Will try direct connecting both laptops in the next few days and see how that works.

Will let you know! Thanks for the input.

Will double check formatting of Seagate before trying again. But will try direct connect in the next few days and let you know results.

Thank you - your response is helpful.
