Photo file size?

I Tried to upload a photo from my iPad 2 gallery, but was told the photo file was too large, and that I needed to reduce it in order to upload. I have already cropped as much of the photo away as I can without losing important parts of the image. But I can not find any way to reduce - or determine the basic size of - the image file size. Is there any way to control photo file sizes on my tablet?

(using an iPad2 A1395, 2011, with 32Gb)
