Is there something I should do after removing a lot of files from my Mac like defrag on a PC?

Is there something I could/should do after removing a lot of photos and documents from my Mac? Something comparable to Defrag on a PC?

Desktop, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Mac and OS X are not like windows PC's and generally do not require any kind of cleaning or de-fraging.

However, if you have an older iMac that is running low on free HDD space from years of collecting stuff...?
