My iPad will no longer backup to iCloud or iTunes,

When i try to complete a manual backup (as automatic backup is unable to complete) of my iPad it fails each time to both iCloud and iTunes. On iCloud i have plenty of storage free but all i get is a message saying the backup could not be completed because of an error, i have tried rebooting and backing up to iTunes instead but get the same message.
