Where are the smiley faces in messaging?
Where did the 🙂 emoticons go on my phone? I use to have them, still have the microphone! This is for my 5C
iPhone 5c, iOS 9.2.1
Check Settings> General>Keyboard> Keyboards. -AJ

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. Is the Emoji keyboard listed there? If not, tap on Add New Keyboard, and select it.

If emoji is not listed there, add it by tapping on "add a new keyboard." -AJ
Did that, emoji keyboard not listed, just languages
Then emoji is already added, or you may have missed it in the list. It is right below Dutch. -AJ
Do you see a "globe" key? If so, press that and select emoji.
