I don’t know why the “resolved” box was checked, but having the latest version of VLC didn't matter and didn't solve the viewing issue. BUT--after many hours of trials/tribulation/frustration--i hit on the fix… YAY! …only thing is, i changed like 5 things all at once so i’m not sure which one it was that made the fix happen (argh!) but being as the problem was corrected, i’m posting everything i did here. I hope this helps the rest of you frustrated VLC-viewers, so…. here we go (and may the 9s be with you):
1. When i checked out VLC’s troubleshooting guide, the menu items they had listed for VLC’s preferences did not match the menu items that were on my VLC player(!?) even though it was up-to-date. SO, if YOUR menu has a section heading “input/codecs” (on mine it’s the 5th cone over), boink on that and look where it has “caching” listed and see which “default caching level” is selected… mine had “normal” listed so i changed it to “highest latency”. btw, be sure to hit the “SAVE” button down on the bottom before you exit the preferences AND be sure to close and restart VLC to make sure it ‘chings in’ the new selections you make.
2. i deleted firefox completely (do it with “appcleaner”).
3. i kept safari but deleted the plug-ins having to do with graphic/video things… i did keep the google talk plugins video renderer as well as the java applet stuff.
4. i also went to my MBP’s “library” file and in its “internet plug-in” file i saw a plug-in i didn’t recognize (can’t remember the name of it) and so i deleted it.
5. I also totally trashed adobe’s flash player and then re-loaded it.
Then i restarted my laptop and... VOILA! here i am, A HAPPY VIDEO-VIEWER once more! YAY!
so, run along now, do as i did above and chances are you, too, will soon be a HAPPY VIDEO-VIEWER again! have a fun day…
