Videos breaking up in VLC Player since El Capitan 'upgrade'

I use VLC Player to watch videos (since QuickTime's volume doesn't get loud enough and there's no EQ); after upgrading to El Capitan (it seems) videos are now breaking up frequently (get pixellated, turn sort of white/negative then bounce back). Anyone else have this problem/know of a fix? THX!

dude, i feel like such a dork! if that's what the problem is/was (i'm testing it right now and i'll let you know) then you totally ROCK, i didn't even think about something so simple as that (very frustrated over GarageBand)... so THANK YOU for the response (i was on 2.2.1 btw) and i'll let you know... have a fun day ~ sarine

k, so it turns out i'm not a dork, i'm on 2.2.2 now and still having the same problem... i did a short chat with apple and was asked if it only happens in "3rd party" apps; i left the chat to experiment, i never use quicktime because it's volume doesn't get loud enough and it doesn't have an EQ, but i've tried watching a few flicks with headphones on now (in QT) and the video seems to be fine so far... as far as videoplayer goes, i checked out their troubleshooting guide and did what i could, but the menu is different than what my VLC shows and i can't find anything similar except a box for dropping frames which i tried checking as well as unchecking and i still have the problem... i have no idea how "plug-ins" work, i.e., if browser plug-ins kick in when there's no internet connection (fyi, at home where i'm generally doing the watching of any videos, we don't have an internet connection)... oh, last thing, i did upgrade my macbook's memory to 16GB so it would seem that that shouldn't be the problem)... ARGHH! help? THANK YOU

I don’t know why the “resolved” box was checked, but having the latest version of VLC didn't matter and didn't solve the viewing issue. BUT--after many hours of trials/tribulation/frustration--i hit on the fix… YAY! …only thing is, i changed like 5 things all at once so i’m not sure which one it was that made the fix happen (argh!) but being as the problem was corrected, i’m posting everything i did here. I hope this helps the rest of you frustrated VLC-viewers, so…. here we go (and may the 9s be with you):

1. When i checked out VLC’s troubleshooting guide, the menu items they had listed for VLC’s preferences did not match the menu items that were on my VLC player(!?) even though it was up-to-date. SO, if YOUR menu has a section heading “input/codecs” (on mine it’s the 5th cone over), boink on that and look where it has “caching” listed and see which “default caching level” is selected… mine had “normal” listed so i changed it to “highest latency”. btw, be sure to hit the “SAVE” button down on the bottom before you exit the preferences AND be sure to close and restart VLC to make sure it ‘chings in’ the new selections you make.

2. i deleted firefox completely (do it with “appcleaner”).

3. i kept safari but deleted the plug-ins having to do with graphic/video things… i did keep the google talk plugins video renderer as well as the java applet stuff.

4. i also went to my MBP’s “library” file and in its “internet plug-in” file i saw a plug-in i didn’t recognize (can’t remember the name of it) and so i deleted it.

5. I also totally trashed adobe’s flash player and then re-loaded it.

Then i restarted my laptop and... VOILA! here i am, A HAPPY VIDEO-VIEWER once more! YAY!

so, run along now, do as i did above and chances are you, too, will soon be a HAPPY VIDEO-VIEWER again! have a fun day…

APOLOGIES!!! i'm new to this whole forum thing and evidently not very good at it... can't really tell if/where my reply posts (arghh!) so i'll go delete one of 'em (if that's possible)... i DID post how i resolved, would you still like answers to your post?

THIS IS AN EDIT to YOU, dialabrain, i don't see a way to delete one of the duplicate posts, my other later posts have an "edit" option showing, but it doesn't appear on what i WANT to delete/edit! is there some time limit? or do you know how to delete? yikes! again, apologies and have a fun day..,
