Smart Keyboard won't type on home screen and shortcuts stop working

I'm running the latest version of iOS 9.2.1 and now for some reason the smart keyboard shortcuts and the ability to type on the homescreen to unlock the device has stopped working. If disconnect the keyboard and reattach It everything is fine again but then it stops working after about 10 minutes or so. Really annoying, anyone else having the same issue?
