how do I back up my back-up external hard-drive?

I have a La Cie 4TB external hard drive to back-up my MacBook Pro. How do I back-up my external hard-drive ( just in case it ceases to function properly or at all )?

Are you using this drive as a Time Machine backup?

You can connect as second external hard drive and configure Time Machine to use that drive as well. Then Time Machine will alternate every hour between the drives. Then when one of those fails, you will have a backup which is no more than an hour old.
