Hi Steen,

Will the value in this cell be used in further calculations, or is this it's last stop, and it is here as a visual presentation only?

How do you want the cell to display a number such as 3128598? 28598?

If the value in this cell will not be used in further calculations, the simplest method is probably to divide the value by 1000, and round the result to the nearer whole number. Here's and example:

I've assumed that the number is the result of a calculation in the cells in column A. Cells in column B reference column A to get the value, then reduce and round the reduction to get the result in column B. Although the formula needs the 'real' value in column A, there's no need for anyone viewing the table to see it, so that column may be hidden, leaving column B to display the result.

B2: =ROUND(A/1000,0)

The formula is filled down column B for as many rows as needed. Results with more than three digits can be displayed as in row 3 or as in row 5 by checking or unchecking "Thousands separater" in the cell format pane.

If you wish to avoid having a hidden column, replace A in the formula above with whatever formula is generating the result in column A.

Regards,

Barry

You could skip the hidden column by replacing the "A" in the formula
