my phone is not working properly

With my iPhone 5, IOS 9.2.1, many of my outgoing calls are now failing. Also, when someone calls my phone, it immediately goes to message and does not ring. Why is that?

TTry the same first step. Reset your iPhone. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this, but it did not correct the issue. My wife had what appeared to be the same problem with her iPhone 6, and the apple store gave her a new phone since they couldn't identify the problem. I have a genius bar appointment scheduled to see if they can determine what's up with my phone. Unlike my wife's phone, which quit making outgoing calls entirely, mine works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't.
