How can I install MS Office on Mac?

I have lost MS office software and although it looks like I have it after I upgraded it tells me I need to reinstall.

iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

What Version of Office were you running and on what OS X? If it was Office for Mac 2011 then simply Reinstall it from your purchased discs. Or did you download a copy?

But the new iMac does not have a disc slot.

Then lucky that the OP does not have a new one and has iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3) as stated in their profile.
