Internal HDD won't appear in Disk Utility

I have a MacBook Pro - Mid 2012 and a week ago boot ups started resulting in the Question Marked Folder start-up icon. I followed recovery steps by booting with Cmd-R and nav'd to the Disk Utility.

Disk Utility showed Mac OSX Base only. No other hard drives. I removed my hard drive from my mac and via an enclosure was able to see it on another Mac. The drive itself seemed fine. I still attempted to replace the HD with a new Western Digital and the boot process remains exactly the same: Question Marked Folder on normal boot up attempt and Disk Utility doesn't show any applicable hard drives.

I reseated the HDD cable connection to the motherboard; just in case it was loose. No change.

I'm beginning to think I'm running out of options here. (Where last option is shipping it off to Apple.) I have backups so I could give a rip about my data but I want my MacBook back.

Any suggestions on a service usable replacement that could improve my situation?

Thanks much for any thoughts or consideration.

Hi LRSutton:

It sound like you have a bad SATA cable. https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2012-Hard-Drive -Cable/IF163-041-1

Here is a guide on how to replace it. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2012+Hard+Drive+Cab le+Replacement/10379

Here is a video to show you how it fails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amg5w0rlwDo

I would replace the SATA cable and see if that fixes it
