macos itunes recognizes ipad but sync is greyed out

iMac: Retina 5K, 27" running 10.11.3

iPad: MC756LL/A 56.4GB capacity, 4.7GB available running iOS 9.2.1

iPad seems to work but I can no longer sync it to my computer. It shows up in itunes but the sync button is greyed out. Everything is running latest versions. I always back it up to the iMac and update the apps through the iMac when I sync but I haven't been able to sync in a month.

Has this ever happened to anyone and if so, what can I do to fix it???

Thanks, Tom

Hi there gomeroh,

If I understand correctly your iPad is indeed seen in iTunes but it does not seem to be able to sync because the sync button is grayed out. I would first restart both devices if you have not already:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists then I would check for security software that may be interfering with the sync function:

Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software
