Why is my MacBook Pro safe sleeping every time??

You know that feature safe sleep? The feature that has your laptop hibernating and preventing it from dying? (Your laptop "dies" and then when you go to plug it in, a grey screen and grey loading bar appear and you are back to where you left off?) Well my laptop is doing this almost every single time I open up my laptop flap from its sleep. My laptop isn't even close to being dead when this happens and it's very frustrating because the loading takes a while and it always happens. Why is this happening?! Any help to make this stop?
