Mixing USB 2 and USB 3 on new MacPro

Areball the USB ports on the same bus, on their own individual bus, or some combinatio? This is for the new "trash can" or "Darth Vader" MacPro.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), Radeon Sapphire 7950

Thee appears to be two buses but the both use the same PCle 2.0 lane

backwards compatible. better to have a usb hub or thunderbolt dock connected to that Mac Pro. keep you from turning it around, connection cables can come lose at bad angles when turning.

So no matter which port I use, if I have a 3 and a 2 connected, the bus will operate at the 2 speed. Correct?
