Q: Can't see my phone number in iMessage

I have 2 iphones, a 4s and a 6 using the same apple ID.

On one, the 4s, I can choose my phone number from the send/receive options.

However on the 6 it does not show the number of that device on the list, but I can see the number of the 4s in the list. So on the 6 the only way to use iMessage is to use an email address. It has never given me the option to verify the number of the 6 to use in iMessage.

One possible reason MAY be that many years ago we used 2 separate apple ID's, and the phone number that is currently on the 6 would have been associated with the now old and unused apple ID. I have logged into the unused apple ID but I can't see any evidence of the old number, or how to disassociate it with the old account. This may not be the reason, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Any help is VERY much appreciated.

    Hello mike_nofx,

I understand that you're not seeing your iPhone 6's phone number as an option for sending and receiving messages on your iPhone 6. In such a situation it's likely that you'll need to link the iPhone 6's phone number by following the directions outlined below on the iPhone 6 to link its phone number to your Apple ID.

    1. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    2. Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    1. Tap Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
    2. Tap Use your Apple ID for iMessage. Then sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID as your iPhone.
    3. Select the phone number and email addresses that you want to be reached at.
    1. Tap Settings > FaceTime.
    2. Tap Use your Apple ID for FaceTime. Then sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID as your iPhone.
    3. Select the phone number and email addresses that you want to be reached at.
