Are you booted off the DVD? What is the error message?

Creating a partition isn't hard. Restart with the C key held down or hold down the option/alt key during a restart to boot off the DVD and open Disk Utility.

Step 1 - select the top level hard drive.

Step 2 - select the Partition tab.

Step 3 - grab the //// to slide the partition up to make room for a new partition.

Step 4 - select the vacant space and hit the + sign.

Step 5- Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and add a name.

Step 5a, click and select GUID.

Then Apply.

ill be more precise now

I have only one HD on my macbook - 320 GB its has OS X - 10.6.8

this HD has about 120 GB left on it, so i tried to use only 70 GB out of those 120GB to create another partition.

the reason I'm trying to do it, is because I don't want to lose any information on that HD but I want to create a second one, on which I will install Yosemite - and ill you use this part to install some now softwares I want to use.

Those softwares don't work on OS X 10.6.8

So the easy way would

be creating 2 part with two different systems.

When I try to do "Apply", create a second partition on my HD (cause I have 120GB left)

It works for a while and then after 1 minute it gives me that Error notice.

"The partition cannot be resized try to decrease the value of the change in the size of the partition"

I tried to decrease the value as well ... it didn't work ...
