Q: Can iWorks convert and import Appleworks databases?

I have several databases that were generated under Appleworks 6.  But now I have an Intel iMac and Appleworks

won't work.  I looked at Filemaker Pro but to convert to a form that program uses, I have to have access to the files.

And they are all "grayed" out when I go to them under Filemaker Pro.  The Appleworks disk I have gives me the

error of "cannot install on Intel computer".  So how can I restore my databases?

I don't have the information anymore to re-do all of them manually!

I'm running Lion OS 10.7.5 on an Intel iMac.

Thanks.

So Appleworks 6 CAN run in SheepShaver?

It crashes my copy of SheepShaver running OS 9.04 running in Lion!

I think it depends which version of AW6 it is? I couldn't get it to run in SheepShaver, but I'm using OS 8.6, and when I tried to launch, it said "Can't find CarbonLib". I THEN discovered there's a version of CarbonLib which can be installed in 8.6, so I did that, but haven't as yet tried to repeat the AW6 thing (I suspect my copy - being the final version - is too new for 8.6 and I'd have to try an older version). In any case, I've got CW5 there, so no problem.

         Hello,

on OSX 10.11, I have installed a working version on AppleWorks 6.2.3 on SheepShaver 2.4 and MacOs 9.0 :

Interesting - where did you get AW 6.2.3 from? (My copy is 6.2.9).

    Hello,

actually, the "simpler way" to find it is probably to look in the http://macintoshgarden.org/ 's archive, i.e. in http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/appleworks-6 ....

AppleWorks 6.2.3 is the Classic component of AW 6.2.4. AW 6.2.9 contains 6.2.8 but only if it was purchased in a retail box or upgraded from a previous install that was purchased in a retail box.

Thanks! I've now got AW 6.2.3 and it runs fine in Mac OS 8.6 in SheepShaver.

Now, here comes the "weird" part...

I have both AW6 and CW5 documents, and assumed that each would open in its "correct" application. No - this is what happens:

    1. If AW6 is open, it opens its own, and opens CW5 documents (with the 'created in previous...' warning, and a (v6.0) suffix)
    2. If both apps are open, the same thing happens
    3. If only CW5 is open, it opens its own documents, but... with the 'earlier version' warning, and adds a (v5.0) suffix! So I did Get Info and the CW5 documents are now identified as AW6 documents

Anything I can do about that, or must I just live with it?
