Please suggest for a hard disk upgrade for early 2009 24" iMac? I have only 55 GB free out of my 1 TB space. I guess it is time to upgrade the hard disk.
My current specs:
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 8GB 1067 MHZ DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GE Force GT 130 512 MB
Software: OS X EL Capitan Version: 10.11.3
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
A better solution is to move large files, unneeded files and libraries off of the internal disc onto an external drive. Replacing the hard drive in an iMac isn't the easiest thing and not knowing your skill level not something I recommend to everyone.

How do I locate the unneeded files? Also, any good suggestions for an external hard drive.
You have to decide which of YOUR applications, files, photos, videos, music etc. that you don't need or use. DO NOT delete any system files.
Find Any File from the Mac App Store may be helpful.
