My Passport

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone can please kindly help.

I plugged my hard drive into my Mac (Pro) and the time machine was preparing to backup, as expected and as normal. My Finder showed both the WD Smartware and My Passport. The back-up failed because there was not enough space, now "My Passport" has disappeared. As a result I can't back up and the Time Machine is waiting for My Passport to be connected in order to backup. I have disconnected and re-connected (as well as restarting the Mac) the external hard drive a few times and each time only the DW Smartware if being picked up and My Passport has disappeared.

Usually when I have not had enough space, the time machine has automatically deleted the older history.

Any ideas on how to retrieve My Passport?

What does Disk Utility say about the disk?

Posting a screen shot would be nice

Hi IIIaass,

I see it now in Disk Utility. I'm attached a screen shot and My Finder (which only has the SmartWare but usually has SmartWare and My Passport).

In most cases, using the manufacturer's drive software (such as WD smartware) on a Mac adds needless complexity.

In the long run, you should erase this drive completely and create direct, Mac-Only partitions on it without using WD smartware.

I managed to resolve the issue. Something must have been wrong with the USB connection. When I used a different connection socket everything returned to normal.
