Really? We make a living doing what Apple refuses to do and that is providing a good customer experience with a variety of solutions to their problems instead of forcing them to replace instead of repair. If THAT is bad customer service then Apple must be absolutely dreadful to deal with..

I know it is not in the front line of phone repair, I also know it is common sense to back up.

After all finding an excuse not to backup is easy, recovering from it is not so easy.

I'm so laughing my head off at how high up on your horse you guys are. Thousands and thousands is not a far reach. I can verify hundreds and if i ask another busy phone shop they can verify hundreds. I'm letting you guys know its a fact. Can data loss be prevented. Of course it can. But the fact remains often times it is not.

So...you say you can.......but you either don't or can't.  So that constitutes a fact? You don't want people to back up anyway. They are the ones who become your customers, so it is unlikely you would tell them of their backup options.

Good for you that you have yours set up, but there are still thousands and thousands of iPhone users that don't have their data automatically backed up.. yes maybe part of it is their fault, and some might not even know any better but regardless there are people out there that need data that are unable to access it and Apple will do NOTHING to help them.

It's a good lesson to them, don't you think?

Sorry but unlike some others here I do actually encourage backups and offer recovery to those that still refuse to do so. I believe in helping out customers in any possibly can (rather that be going to Apple or doing it myself) and I believe if data is something they need, it should be an option they have. Even if it's their fault to begin with. You continue to prove my point that Apple doesn't express care about customer satisfaction by clarifying that they will not flinch at an attempt to help someone get their data, and instead exchange their phone.

Dear Philly Phan.  I would trust the people at I Pad rehab before I would drive two hours to the Apple Store to be told I need a new phone.  Guess what it's possible to be fixed by third party shops that have more knowledge than the Geniuses at the Apple Store.  Give me a break.  If I have a phone that needs a board repair I will send it to them in a heartbeat.  They are not some clown shop trying to cheat people.  And by the way it's hard to void a warranty on any I phone 5 series phones.  Some people can't afford to just go by the latest and greatest new device and don't want to be raked over the coles to have something fixed reasonably and by someone who really knows what they are doing.  I can't even tell you the number of customers who have been told by Apple that they need a new device when all they needed was a screen repair on a perfectly  good older device.  Give me break.

Once again, failure to care about customer satisfaction.

Still laughing my head off. You guys have such an attitude to the "stupid behavior" of people that don't backup. If I had such attitude towards my customers i would be out of business. I tend to be more understanding of the situation and offer solutions compared to making statements like, well guess you didn't care about your wedding pics or baby pics.

Apple already did it, they provided multiple backup systems at no extra cost for users to safe guard their data. Unfortunately they can not force people to use them, just like seat belts don't keep you alive if you don't wear them.

And it is equally true that it oftentimes cannot be retrieved from a damaged phone. So, what is your point? Do you think we don't see hundreds of posts with the same issue and the same question day in and day out? Of course we do. So, if you think we are responding to your posts from a lack of knowledge about the reality of what people do and do not do, you are mistaken.

And guess what? We tell them that their only hope of retrieval at that point is via a 3rd party app or via a 3rd party vendor who specializes in data recovery. So, again, what is your point?

You just seem to be obsessed with this particular aspect of a phone dropped in water. The OP at no point indicated that they did not have their data backed up. So, arguing that taking it to have it looked at by Apple is not a good idea because they might not have a backup is presumptuous at best.

Truest statement yet. Data loss is very easily preventable but often times is not. But saying your now SOL is not helpful.

As a business owner, I believe in providing the best solutions possible to my customers (regardless of their own stupidity of backing up or not backing up) instead of excuses as to why they cant. If Apple could provide better solutions to consumers instead of continuing to hide behind excuses I am sure MUCH more people would rather go to Apple instead of 3rd parties. Unfortunately this isn't the case.

What are you requesting that Apple actually do, have you asked them for it? after all they only know what you tell them.
