YOUR logic says that repair with a part that is not "from Apple" is somehow inferior.  But in practice, this just doesn't seem to be true.   We have to work very hard to get original quality parts---many of which I believe ARE the actual Apple part.

Yes, that is what I am saying. You have to work hard to get the right parts, and that is how it should be. (Don't you know which is a genuine part or not) rather than just believe it when you think you have genuine parts.

I'm still not interested in fake or used parts, and that is what you use. I am tarring all the independents with the same brush here, but that's because they are all selling fakes and used parts.

I think you could easily make a metric to filter repair shops and identify ones that are reputable.

Just among those posting here, if you looked at our combined reviews and warranty, I think you would find thousands, maybe 10's of thousands of customers that are thrilled with the repair and service they got from this group.   Many of those are repeat customers that continue to come back to us years after their initial repair--which points to the robustness of the original repair, regardless of the parts source.

Any industry will have reputable people and ripoffs.  I would argue that independent repair, in the absence of reasonable repair efforts from Apple, offers such a great benefit to both consumers and small American family business that it is too important to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Is the problem of "who can I trust" really unsolvable?

Good idea, let me know when you have done so.

Define fake part for me then.

If Apple goes to the hardware store and buys "bob's wire" and installs it in an iPhone.  And I go to the hardware store and buy "Bob's wire" and install it in a repaired phone.   Is that fake?

I can't tell you how to think, but I can ask you.   In the face of practical results, does the name of the wire really matter?  Isn't the important thing just that it works, and that it continues to work for a year or two?

Fake parts are ones not supplied by Apple, so pretty much everything supplied by the independent repair shops is take (or pre-used)

I'm fascinated by your line of thinking.

YOU described the characteristics of what YOU consider to be an ideal 3rd party repair shop yet YOU defended the fact that YOUR ideal repair shop is unable to obtain the parts that YOU insist are necessary for a quality repair.  Wow.  That's really some ideal shop!

I never said that I had an iPhone repair shop, what are you on? And if you are not on something why are you making up stories about me?

    Don't bother replying to me.

Whatever you do take it to Apple, not one of the 3rd party independents (because they use fake or old parts)

    I'll reinforce that a bit.

It is a very bad idea to let a shop fit fake (or used) parts to any Apple product. This excludes the 3 rd party repair shops from the game. DO NOT take your iPhone to one for service, take it to an Apple facility.

    Just don't do it.
