How can I transfer PDFs from my iPad to my new Mac?

How can I transfer PDFs from my iPad to my new Mac? (and please don't say sync, because that wipes the PDFs from my iPad.) I have tried iTunes File Devices Transfer Purchases but it doesn't transfer the PDFs. I have about 50 PDFs on my iPad and about 30 books. Incidentally, the PDFs WERE on my iPhone as well but it automatically synced with my Mac and they were all wiped, then my iPhone backed up was the wiped version. But the PDFs are still on my iPad Air2. Any help getting PDFs from my IPad to my Mac (OS X Capitain) would be much appreciated.
