MacBook Pro scanning for wifi networks whilst tethering

Using internet sharing on my 2015 MacBook Pro, sharing the connection from thunderbolt ethernet to computers using wifi. Problem is as soon as I move the laptop an inch, it scans for wifi networks which causes the internet sharing to cease and also seems to disconnect the laptop from the thunderbolt ethernet connection. Probably doesn't help that the thunderbolt ethernet adapter also feels loose and easy to come out.

Any ideas?😕
