Q: Data recovery software recommendation for MYOB file

I was recently making space on an old Macbook and inadvertently deleted a folder which I was certain I had backed up to another device. As I emptied the trash, almost instantaneously I realised that I had used a program on the machine to enter two quarters of financial data entry offline. This data would have saved to a sub-folder inside the folder I deleted - I had not been back online to upload the updated data file to the server yet, and had not re-networked the Macbook since returning home to transfer a local copy, either. Yes, idiot me.

The closest data recovery specialists are in Adelaide, which is a seven hour drive from here. The costs range from $650 to $900 and would take a 7 business day turnaround. If it was to recover the entire hard drive I wouldn't have a problem investing that much money and I could put up with the logistical nightmare of getting the machine to them. But it's a lot of money to recover for one folder.

So, Plan B is to purchase some data recovery software and do the job myself. After reading around I'm leaning toward Data Rescue 4 by Prosoft Engineering (https://www.prosofteng.com/data-rescue-4/). Has anyone used it, and do you have any feedback? I'm specifically interested in its capabilities to recover .myo files and .zip backup files. Are there any other recommendations you would make aside from this product that you've had success with?

Cheers
