Can't locate pictures in Finder
The posted answers say to go finder-> preferences, but my menu shows no preferences. How do I get there?

Sorry, not sure what you are referring to? What photos are you attempting to find? What posted answer are your referring to? What menu are you referring to? We need more info to help you with this.

I have a separate folder labeled "pictures." All that appears in the sidebar of my finder, or even when I go to "all my files," is "documents." The discussion here says to solve that problem, go into Finder and click "preferences." When I click on the menu tab in Finder (the gearwheel symbol), no "preferences" appear.
I can access my pictures from Launchpad, but it seems weird not be able to access them in Finder.
Preferences is under the "Finder" menu option in the top menu bar. Click on that, then on the Sidebar tab.

Bingo, and thanks. I am new to Mac and can't get used to having some of the options in the top ribbon instead of directly on the open app.
You are most welcome! Glad it was an easy one to help with 🙂
