how can I check my phone for any damages in the software or malfunction ?

I got my Iphone 6 stolen, and I am planning to but a used Iphone. thus, I was wondering if there is a program that I can download to check the device for any malfunction on the software. Just to make sure it is working probably and avoid wasting my money. I appreciate any support and advice from you all.
