Search sharepoint from Windows unsuccessful

Obliged to move from Macs to Corporate PCs. Retaining legacy files on a 2009Xserve.

Did not foresee that PCs cannot search the Xserve?...

Users can connect to Xserve via ip address from start button in Windows<< \\ 12.123.123.123 >>, they enter their Mac USERNAME and PASSWORD and can access all files but cannot search for a file... they need to know which folder job may be stored in, and they can then navigate manually and find and open the files.

Search via the PC is useless.

Is this as good as it gets?

Any way of speeding up the search? legacy mac can search and get result in 2 seconds, gave up the PC search after two minutes....

Anything I can adjust on Server Admin to improve search times

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.6.8), macs 10.6& El Capitan, windows 7
