Moving a project to an external hard drive with layers intact. iMovie 10.1

I'm operating iMovie 10.1 and need to move a project to an external hard drive so I can work on the project on another computer that also has iMovie 10.1. How can I move the entire project over instead of 'sharing' it which means compressing the video file? I need my layers intact. Please help! Thanks!

You need first to consolidate the project and any events used by it so as to make sure that the library contains all the needed media and no links (that would not work on another computer. See: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/mov882dee351

Then I would create a new library on the external drive (must be Apple - formatted) and copy the project and event(s) to it. This should now work on another mac running exactly the same version of iMovie. See: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/mov3fa25bae7
