WHY DOES FORWARDING MAIL STRIP PICTURES

Forwarding strips any pictures, usually leaving a question mark in its place.

REDIRECT appears to work ( although there is something buggy about it that will require further investigation)

It appears APPLE MAIL (and probably all Mail clients) make the distinction between REDIRECT and FORWARD. If you FORWARD it strips all the data other than Text, if you REDIRECT it leaves it intact. You are out of luck if you use IOS, it appears not have the equivalent command, you do have the option to include attachments in FORWARD, not sure if that does the same thing.

See if using Message > Redirect does what you want, adjusting from and to as needed. (There are some long threads on this topic.)

There is no logic to it. I have embedded remote images in two different messages, one, once you are composing the forwarded message loses that remote image, the other keeps the remote image and manages to send it. I suspect there is a bug somewhere. I normally don't use remote images in Mail's viewing preference, because of the risk of a trojan horse. Anyone who wants to send me an image better have to have a pretty good reason for me to look at it.

My advice, anyone who wants to send you anything other than text should send you a link on the web where they have it stored, rather than attachments.

Links you can then forward, as long as you are careful not to strip part of it with the quote in your message line.

I am running 10.10.3 Yosemite

I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature. I suspect MAIL has always done this.

I have noticed that emails that have photo content within text that have been forwarded to me, deletes the content and just leaves a text place holder where the photo would have been within the text.

To test this I sent a photo within text to myself, and then forwarded it back to myself, sure enough it stripped the photo content.

Are you running Mavericks or Yosemite? (10.9.2 as your signature says), or 10.10 which is Yosemite. I need to be able to reproduce the situation in your operating system before I can give you help.
