I understand you are having an issue with one or more songs on an album you purchased from the iTunes Store. On your computer, in the iTunes Library, does the song play correctly? If so, re-sync it to your iPod classic. If not, delete the album from the iTunes library and re-download it. If the issue persists, contact the iTunes Store Support team.

thanks for the tip it did work as you suggested, however, there is still one gripe I have. That is that when I play one of the tunes on the problematic album and then move to the next track, it is not necessarily the next physical track on my iPod. Strange but true.
