Display light not working

My friend used my macbook. after when i try to switch on display backlight doesn't work. I can only see the display with a torch light. Brightness bars at full level. I'm still figuring out what just happened. can anyone help me. I had tried with PRAM(Command+option+p+r) still nothing happening

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I understand that you're not able to see your display unless you shine a light at it. This would indicate that the displays backlight is not activating. Since you've already reset your Mac's PRAM, the next step going forward would be to reset its SMC.
