Battery Icon Not Updating

I have the macbook pro retina 13', and I just got it the other day. However, I noticed that the battery icon in the toolbar is not updating, and the only way to make it is to check then uncheck "show battery status in menu bar". The correct charge amount is showing in system preferences and activity monitor. It's very new, so it shouldn't be doing this. I have not been able reset NVRAM or SMC, I will when I am able.
