Since I changed my primary iCloud email address, messages.app no longer shows text messages

Steps to reproduce:

1. Change primary iCloud email address

2. Go through the painful process of deleting/re-syncing iCloud on each device (iPhone, macbook)

3. Receive a text message/iMessage to the iphone

4. It doesn't display on messages.app, despite messages.app being connected to the same iCloud account

Oddly, I can *send* iMessages from messages.app, it's just not receiving them.

Anybody have any idea how to convince messages to receive texts from my icloud account?
